Pritchardia is a genus of fan palms that are native to the tropical Pacific islands, especially Hawai’i. The Hawaiian name for these palms is 🌺loulu. Pritchardia affinis is endemic to the island of Hawai’i. It is threatened by habitat loss, invasive plants and animals, and diseases. It is listed as endangered by the IUCN Red List.
- Can grow up to 15 meters tall and has a smooth, gray trunk
- Has large, green, fan-shaped leaves that are divided into many segments
- Leaf stalks are covered with woolly fibers
- Produces small, yellow flowers in branched clusters that hang below the leaves
- Flowers are followed by round, black fruits that contain one seed each
